PROJECT DETAIL
Lawrence Pump Station Improvements
Challenge
The City of Lawrence needed to complete improvements for aging pump stations that serve the city. Bartlett & West provided engineering services for the reconstruction of three pump stations in North Lawrence. These 30-year old pump stations were nearing the end of their lifecycles. Aesthetic considerations were necessary since the pump stations were in a single family residential area.
Solution
Bartlett & West prepared a Design Phase Memorandum based on a thorough review of the Lawrence Wastewater Master Plan and recommended solutions. The design phase required Bartlett & West to complete pump station plans including hydraulic analysis, wet wells, valve vaults, control buildings, pump designs, electrical and mechanical components and individual site designs. Balancing earth-fill and retaining wall strategies proved to be a key component in the project's design success.
Value
Replacing the aged, canned pump stations has resolved reliability issues and has eliminated access, maintenance, aesthetic and confined space issues.
