Project Detail

Wanamaker Road Corridor Construction

Total Cost
$12 million
Date Completed
State
Kansas

Challenge

The busy Wanamaker Road corridor in southwest Topeka was becoming congested, resulting in poor travel times, traffic back-ups and safety concerns along the corridor and surrounding street network. In addition, proposed development in the area would expand the issues.

Solution

After collecting traffic and signalization data, Bartlett & West worked with the Kansas Department of Transportation to integrate the data into the City of Topeka’s 2040 Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) traffic model. Through a phased approach, Bartlett & West reconfigured the Wanamaker Road corridor through a series of six improvement projects.

Value

The Wanamaker corridor now has more streamlined, efficient traffic flow and is prepared to accommodate the anticipated 2040 traffic volume.
