Producing renewable natural gas from landfill waste

Challenge

A landfill operator wanted the facility to emit fewer toxic gases and become carbon neutral by converting waste into renewable natural gas (RNG).

Solution

Bartlett & West provided site-civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, process and energy optimization design. Project scope also included the integration of controls and a safety flare, as well as a design for on-site geothermal heat reuse to drive further energy and financial savings.

Value

The production of renewable natural gas created an additional revenue stream while improving local air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
