Challenge

Highway 20 needed an emergency grade raise to stay above the surface of rising flood waters.

Solution

Work included materials testing and compliance with the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) specification book. The grade raise was imperative to keep the roadway above the surface of rising flood waters. The scope of this emergency grade raise project included the design and preparation of construction documents to keep the roadway traversable to the public. The roadway was raised and widened to reestablish the clear zone. Additionally, riprap was placed to prevent any additional erosion.
