Westar Energy Waste Management Facility

Challenge
Rolling Meadows landfill and Westar Energy wanted to convert waste into electricity to mitigate costs and maximize alternative energy sources for local residents.
Solution
Bartlett & West provided all civil, survey, zoning and platting services for a “gas-to-energy” waste management facility at the Rolling Meadows landfill. The plant recaptures more than 2,000 standard cubic feet of methane gas per minute and converts the gas into 5.4 megawatts per hour of electricity.
Value
About 3,700 local residences, representing more than 7,000 people, will receive electricity from this renewable energy source through the year 2072.
